CURRENT ATTORNEY GENERAL CRIMINAL COMPLAINTS AT EDIFICIO HOJARASCA:

ATWATER GROUP SAFETY ADVISEMENT

Edificio Hojarasca currently has three active criminal complaints filed with the Attorney General of Colombia (Fiscalia) as recorded in the public record available to prosecuting attornies in Colombia.

  1. Property theft in Edificio Hojarasca: Thefts include a motorized vehicle and multiple bicycles. These thefts, as shown in the Fiscalia complaint, are directly related to Airbnb short-term rentals at the property. A full reading of the complaint shows that there is likely negligence on the part of both a maintenance company servicing Airbnb units on the property as well as the administration company overseeing the Airbnb activities in the building.

Multiple druggies and robberies of persons on the Edificio Hojarsca property. Thefts due to the drugs include smart phones, computers, tablets, credit cards, cash, funds stolen from bank accounts, bit coin, jewelry, and identity theft.

While no one died in the complaints listed on file at the Fisaclia, it is not uncommon for drugs involving the reported drug (scopolamine) to lead to serious adverse health problems including:  coma, heart attack, stroke, and death.

These druggings are common in tourist cities, including Medellin, and rings of thieves target buildings without security guards such as Edificio Hojarasca to drug individuals and conduct thefts where items stolen are quickly ‘fenced’ and withdrawals are made from bank accounts via the stolen cell phones and computers while the victims are incapacitated and recovering from the druggings.

To evade police, these thieves work quickly and routinely use stolen credit cards and identify their victims to rent Airbnbs to use as a base of operations before moving to a different part of the city or to a different city.

By the time the affected victim recovers to realize what has happened, the ring has moved on, only leaving behind a trail of stolen goods, stolen money from bank accounts, and abandoned stolen credit cards used to purchase electronics to ‘fence; for cash and to pay for the next rental property.
